Twitchers flock to see rare bird Wilson's Phalarope at Slimbridge

We are lucky to live in one England's supper highways for birds. It is hard to walk more than a hundred meters without coming across all of the common birds of the garden or countryside.

Then add to that the variety that the Severn and its wetlands offers and the southerly position of the county and you have one of the major stopping off point or landing points for all the summer migrants.

This map shows what was seen on just two walks undertaken on consecutive days just after daybreak. We still have the northern part of Longney to cover and will do the same walks in May so we can hopefully record the new arrivals.

Have a look in your own garden or nearest field, take the children with some binoculars and discover for yourself the magic that is out there.
